THE traditional celebration of the TT Festival – which sees bikers riding out in force around the course – was cut short yesterday (Sunday).
The start of Mad Sunday saw the Mountain Road section of the course closed early in the morning due to fog.
The road re-opened at about 10am but was closed again due to what police described as a ‘large diesel spill’. It shut again at 5pm.
Police urged motorists to take particular care on the roads due to diesel spills on two other areas of the course – at Glen Helen corner, heading towards Kirk Michael, and between Sulby and Ramsey, on the north-bound carriageway.
Road crews from the Department of Infrastructure cleared the diesel and police thanked the crews for their work.
The emergency services were called to a number of crashes during the day.
On the TT course, there was a crash on the Douglas to Peel road at Union Mills, and a one motorcycle crash just outside Kirk Michael village. In addition, there was a ‘minor’ incident on the main road through Baldrine.
