Haven Homes Limited’s plan has been approved for 30 homes to be built on the former gas works site in Ramsey.
The homes will comprise six two-bedroom, 14 three-bedroom and 10 four-bedroom two and three storey terraced houses, to be accessed from North Shore Road.
Planners granted approval for work on the brownfield site with a condition that the developer enters into a legal agreement to secure 25 per cent affordable housing, and public open space.
In the planning and design statement submitted with the application it states: ‘The redevelopment of this site as proposed will provide environmental improvement and financial investment to regenerate a run-down area identified for improvement in the Area Plan and in accordance with the aims and objectives of the Strategic Plan.’
The work includes demolishing the redundant gas works structures , and re-cladding the existing commercial building.
The design of the two storey homes incorporates features from 1-4 Loch Villas, and uses the seascape colours from the Colours of Mann project.
Meanwhile the design for the terrace of estuary houses ‘reflects the industrial heritage of the site’, including zinc roofing and cladding.
Due to now redundant industrial use, small amounts of localised contamination have been identified and will require removal or remediation.
