A SECTION of the Mountain Road will close for two days next week while essential maintenance work is carried out.
The two day closure will take place on Monday and Tuesday (November 12 and 13) with the option of closing on other days instead if bad weather does not allow the work to proceed on either of those days.
The times of the closure are from 9.30 am until 4.30 pm on each day.
The work to be carried out includes rebuilding a parapet wall on the Mountain Mile, cleaning out ditches where water is coming on to the road and patching the road where potholes are forming.
All of these works involve having men and vehicles on the carriageway, in some places where the road is at its narrowest.
The Department of Infrastructure says it has to take steps to safeguard its workforce and the public, and the safest way to do this is to close the road.
It thanked members of the public for their understanding, ahead of the road closures.
