Make a will and raise some money for charity

Next month The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity is holding its annual ‘Write a Will Month’ with support from two firms of advocates in the Isle of Man.

It’s believed that more than half of people in the UK have not written a will.

Similar statistics are likely to apply in the Isle of Man.

In order to help those who may not have a will yet, two firms of Manx advocates have agreed to waive their normal fee.

They will write wills in return for a minimum donation of £100 to The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity.

Louise Beach, Clatterbridge’s fundraising manager, said: ‘Whatever your age it is important to have an up-to-date will to ensure your family and friends are provided for, in the way you intended for the future.’

People who take part are not obliged to leave a gift to the charity in their will and the charity says it would always encourage you to think of family and friends first.

Mr Beach said: ‘If you do wish to leave a gift to The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, we would love to thank you for such a kind donation.’

The two firms taking part in the Isle of Man are Long and Humphrey, of Athol Street, Douglas, and Smith Taubitz Unsworth, of Finch Road, Douglas.

To take part, participants should make an appointment during November.

The advocate will draw up a basic single Will in return for a donation.

Ms Beach said: ‘The amount is at your discretion, however we ask that a minimum of £100 is donated per single will.

‘The donation should be given to the advocate, who will send it on to us.

‘Cheques should be made payable to The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity.’

The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre is all too familiar to many families in the Isle of Man whose loved-ones have needed treatment.

It has nine operating sites across Merseyside and Cheshire and treats more than 30,000 patients a year, offering pioneering chemotherapy, radiotherapy and proton therapy treatments.

Long and Humphrey’s phone number is 651951 and Smith Taubitz Unsworth’s is 677888.
