It’s the end of an era today as the last flight between Blackpool and the Isle of Man takes place.
At 5pm, the final scheduled flight from Blackpool to the Isle of Man will take off from Blackpool Airport, nearly 74 years after scheduled services began in 1940.
Blackpool Airport announced the closure of its operations at the end of September and, despite hopes of reaching an agreement that would ensure their viability, the airport will cease operations from today.
Island-based Citywing said it was committed to keeping this route alive for the communities of the Isle of Man and North West England, and hoped to be able to issue an update soon.
Citywing managing director David Buck said: ‘This final flight highlights the continuous strategic importance of this vital air link to communities on both sides of the Irish Sea, and Citywing will continue to work with the many parties involved to try to bring scheduled air services back to Blackpool Airport.’
Passengers on the flight will still have to pay the {http://www.iomtoday.co.im/news/isle-of-man-news/passengers-still-have-to-pay-10-development-fee-for-airport-that-s-going-to-close-next-week-1-6890871|’airport development fee’.
