Scammers pretending to be bank officials have contacted a number of people in the Isle of Man, police have warned.
Police inspector Derek Flint said: ‘We are getting a significant number of reports of people being contacted by people purporting to be bank officials, who then go on to ask for account details. ‘In several cases, their ruse has been successful , resulting in large amounts of money being drawn from their savings
‘The public must understand that no bank will contact you and ask you for this information.
‘In each and every case, look up the phone number of the bank you deal with in the phone book and ring them back.
Do not rely on any “ring-back” number the caller may give you.
‘The risk that you could lose many thousands of pounds by being duped cannot be over-stated.’
