The Children’s Centre is appealing for entrants in this year’s Parish Walk to raise funds for the charity.
Every year competitors in the island’s biggest mass participation sports event raise a total of around £600,000 for local charities.
Everyone who pledges to collect sponsorship for The Children’s Centre will receive a specially designed baseball cap.
The Parish Walk, which is sponsored by Manx Telecom, begins at the National Sports Centre in Douglas at 8am on Saturday, June 23.
Usually around 10 per cent of those who start will complete the full 85-mile route around the island finishing on Douglas Promenade. But the majority of the walkers will aim to achieve personal goals with the most popular target being to reach Peel – a distance of 32 miles.
This year’s start list includes 212 walkers who have previously completed the full 85 mile route, 789 walkers who have taken part in the event before but haven’t completed the full distance, and 817 who are starting the event for the first time.
Susie Cox, community fundraiser at The Children’s Centre, said: ‘Whether you are a seasoned Parish Walker or taking part for the first time we would love you to walk on our behalf.
‘It doesn’t matter how far you are aiming to walk as the event is about achieving a personal goal and, no matter how much you raise, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that your are helping to support our charitable projects Mobex, Out2Play, Child Contact Centre, and community development projects such as the Philip Christian Centre in Peel, and our community farm.’
The Children’s Centre’s fundraising team will support all walkers that pledge to raise funds by giving advice on collecting sponsorship, providing sponsorship forms, and tips on how to use PayPal to make it easier for sponsors to make donations.
