The popular, free Laxey motorcyle show, organised by local motorcycle club The Moddey Dhoo, takes place next Thursday, June 5, from 11am onwards on Laxey promenade.

Back in 2007 the club decided to hold a bike show to celebrate 100 years of the TT racing.

Andy Scullard, of Moddey Dhoo Motorcycle Club, who is the Laxey TT motorcycle show co-oganiser, said: ‘The club realised that the TT was becoming removed from real bikers as the entertainment and shows were driven by the corporate pound, and therefore those already spending significant amounts to get here always had their hand on their wallet and not on the handles of the bike.

‘It was decided that we needed something that bikers could enjoy, chill out for a day, stay off the roads and look at bikes. So, the club decided in the celebration year to have a free to enter bike show with static displays, music and of course a custom show.

‘The venue was questioned, but, the show on the Laxey prom is quite possibly one of the best sights and views on the island and with full backing of the people of Laxey, the commissioners and the local heritage group, Laxey is now packed with tourists visiting the show and wandering round the village heritage trail.

‘So, here we are eight years later and the show is now the biggest, pure biking attraction the TT festival has.’

In the last few years the numbers attending have risen to an all-time high in 2013 of an estimated 6,000 to 7,000 attending, with people returning year on year for the bike show.

Andy added: ‘The show is what a TT festival is all about, people meeting to watch racing, and then going somewhere they can relax in the company of fellow bikers without costing them anymore money that the cost of the tram or cost of petrol.’
