REBECCA House will be holding a series of events to raise its profile.

It is hoped Children’s Hospice Week – May 18 to 27 – will boost awareness of and funds for the Braddan facility, which costs more than £400,000 each year to run and provides day care, respite care and end of life care for children aged from birth to 18 years with life threatening and life limiting illnesses.

The hospice currently looks after 24 youngsters, aged six months to 16 years old.

The week of fun is launched with a Superhero Ball at The Mount Murray Hotel, Santon, on Friday, May 18 – so grab your super hero costume and contact the fundraising department on 647434.

Tickets cost £45 each. Fancy dress is optional.

Also starting on the Friday will be information stalls at the Henry Bloom Noble Library, in Douglas, Onchan Library and Noble’s Hospital.

There will also be an information stall at the Strand Shopping Centre, Douglas.

Saturday, May 19, will see the team packing bags at Shoprite, Victoria Road.

On Sunday, May 20, there will be an open day at Rebecca House, from 10am to 6pm, with tours of the four-bed unit along with a treasure hunt, Davison’s ice cream van and a chance to meet Shrek, Spongebob and Princess Fiona. To book, call 647405.

That day will also see 10 runners taking part in a Manchester 10km event for the charity.

There will be a quiz night and raffle at the Outback, in Douglas, on Tuesday, May 22. To enter a team (£5) call 647405.

On Friday, May 25, everyone in the island is invited to dress up as a super hero or their favourite rainbow colour and donate a minimum of £2 to the charity.

There will also be a band night at Crescent Nightclub, in Douglas, from 8pm, featuring Joey Wylde, Joshua Dillon and The Fecktones. Tickets (£5) are available from The Crescent or Hospice.

Rebecca House staff will also be doing a pub crawl in Douglas the following evening.

The final day of activities, May 27, will see a walk along Douglas seafront from the Summerland at midday. Entry is £5 per family.
