Boston Trust Company has appointed former British and Irish Lions rugby player, Scott Gibbs, in a consultancy capacity as a brand ambassador for the company.
Gibbs, who lives in South Africa and has extensive business interests in the Middle East and Asia, will support the strategic growth of the company with international business development activities.
Gibbs represented Wales and the British and Irish Lions in Rugby Union, and Wales and Great Britain in Rugby League.
During the 1997 British Lions tour to South Africa he was named Player of the Series.
He was also noted for the superb individual try he scored in the dying minutes of the last ever Five Nations match in 1999 against England. It meant England failed to claim the Grand Slam.
He said: ‘I am impressed with the team at Boston, and very pleased to be working with a dynamic company with clear international growth plans.
‘I see great synergies between my business interests and those of Boston and we have an exciting series of events planned. I am looking forward to working with chief executive officer Greg Ellison and his team to develop mutually beneficial opportunities.’
Boston is based in Circular Road, Douglas.
Greg Ellison, a big rugby fan himself and a former player, said: ‘I am delighted that Scott has agreed to represent Boston as a brand ambassador.
‘His experience in property and private equity, coupled with his extensive global network, will support Boston’s international business development plans, particularly in the Middle East, Asia and South Africa.
‘In his commercial and sporting career, Scott has always displayed supreme professionalism, immense determination and an incessant drive for excellence.
‘These characteristics align perfectly with Boston’s brand and the company’s values, and we are excited about working with Scott to develop our mutual interests over the months and years ahead.’
Gibbs has recently returned from Australia where he was commentating on the successful British and Irish Lions rugby tour alongside Jeremy Guscott and Jim Rosenthal for the Middle East based OSN Network. Client events with Boston have been scheduled for October in London and November in Dubai, with plans for an event on the Isle of Man in 2014.
