Incidents of theft and damage to boats and related equipment have led to an appeal for information.
Police and harbour authorities intend clamping down after a spate of crimes around the island – and want the sea-going community to step forward and name those responsible.
The most recent incident involved the theft of a boat winch from a trailer stored at Derbyhaven boat park some time between August 20 and 26.
The silver metal winch and handle was unbolted from the trailer frame but is unfortunately not particularly identifiable.
The winch is worthless as scrap and only fit for the purpose of which it is designed.
Constable Arnold of Port Erin police is eager to speak to anyone who may have any information relating to this, or any other similar theft or incident of damage over the summer. Call him on 832222
In the meantime, boat owners are being urged to take security measures such as marking items with a distinctive-coloured paint, keeping items out of sight or locking them to a static object.
