Jonathan Leece, Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) has been appointed president for the CISI Isle of Man branch.

With more than 15 years of experience in the finance sector and over 10 in compliance, Jonathan who lives in Ramsey has had a varied career in Banking, Corporate & Trust, Investment Management and latterly Fund Management.

His work has taken him to and given experience of the laws of Jersey, Guernsey, Hong Kong and Cayman.

He is presently the compliance officer, MLRO and company secretary of The Premier Group (Isle of Man) Limited, a niche fund manager that is increasing its presence in the socially responsible investment space.

Jonathan has been on the CISI Isle of Man branch committee for three years and felt he wanted to put something back for a rewarding career thus far.

Jonathan started out his career in the company and trust sector but was asked by the then head of compliance at Singer & Friedlander, Julie Haslett, to consider a career in compliance.

After taking the opportunity he never looked back.

Jonathan said: ‘I remember saying to Julie that I was not the right type of person to be in compliance.

‘Julie’s response was that is exactly why I should be in compliance! She was right, not being the stereotypical compliance person has been a key differentiator’.

With a young family and the studying of a BSc with the University of Manchester in Management and Compliance, Jonathan’s time has been very stretched over the last two years.

He looks forward to completing his degree this year and getting back to his love of fitness and the outdoors ‘between mountain biking, running and football I will be fit again and can’t wait!’

Jonathan said: ‘I am honoured to have been elected to this position with a committee of mostly ex-presidents behind me.

‘If I were to stray, the strong committee would be certain to bring me back on track.

‘This is my opportunity to put something back for a thoroughly enjoyable career so far and the sound grounding the CISI qualifications have given me.

‘The work CISI have done in my own region is something to be proud of and I hope to continue with that.

‘The CISI continues to strive for ethics within business – at least in part a solution, I think, to an ever-changing and difficult regulatory backdrop – both in the UK and the Isle of Man. I would also like to thank Sue Preskey, the outgoing president, for her help while transitioning the presidency’.
