Motorist cut from vehicle

A motorist was cut from their vehicle by fire and rescue service staff yesterday.

At about 4.10pm fire crews from Port Erin were called after a report of smoke coming from a vehicle after a road traffic collision, on the Colby Main Road.

The source of smoke was the deployed airbags.

One person was still in the vehicle and with the advice of the attending ambulance service paramedics, ordered on a assistance from the Castletown station to help with the controlled removal of the casualty from the vehicle. Crews using hydraulic cutting equipment, hand tools and stabilisation equipment removed the casualty from the car.

Crews remained there for about 30 minutes.

One person was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment.
