A gas main caught light in Kirk Michael on Wednesday.
Fire crews were dispatched from both Kirk Michael and Peel stations at about 3.45pm to the Balleira Road.
Upon arrival, Kirk Michael’s fire appliance with sub officer Allen Brew in charge, along with his crew, were faced with flames about 15 feet in height, coming from the ignited gas main situated on the embankment alongside the road.
Fire crews covered the surrounding foliage with water jets to prevent further fire spread, while they awaited the arrival staff from the gas company.
Gas officials isolated the gas from both ends of the main and fire crews extinguished the fire.
Fire crews were on scene until 6.40pm dealing with this incident.
