A SERIES of town and village centre cycling events planned by Steve Shimmin have been cancelled.
Mr Shimmin has said the whole series taking place in Castletown, Port Erin, Peel, Ramsey and Douglas, is off.
‘It’s devastating, I’m massively disappointed, these chances to put these things on do not arrive every day. I have put hundreds of hours into it,’ he said.
‘Children’s [sections] are well supported, it’s the seniors that have shown total lack of interest. Normally I have my finger on the pulse of the feeling of cycling, I feel like walking away from cycling.
‘We have cancelled the whole series, Castletown, Port Erin, Peel, Ramsey and Douglas.
Castletown was kicking it off. With the Tour de France, it was aimed at the same slot, cycling is on everyone’s lips in June and July. But you live and learn, nobody is dead, it’s only cycling.’
Mr Shimmin was behind last year’s inaugural evening cycle race in Port St Mary, which was called the Nocturne Cycle Criterium event.
The community and local authority fully embraced the event in Port St Mary and it was ‘extremely successful’.
