Cash will help young sailors

A finance sector company has become the main sponsor of the Manx Youth Sailing Squad.

The deal, with Equiom, a trust and corporate service provider based in Douglas, will provide the MYSS with the funding to offer junior sailors the opportunity to compete in high-level racing events both in the seas of the island and further afield.

The squad, formed in 2008, has already achieved world-class results with members competing in the GB RS Tera Squad at the World Championships in 2010, 11, 12 and 13.

Jenni Kneale said: ‘Receiving support from local businesses like Equiom is vital to our ongoing success.

‘Equiom’s kind support will ensure we can continue training youngsters to a standard that they can compete at national and World Championship level with the GBR RS Tera squad in the UK. We would like to thank them for their generosity and shared passion in supporting young sporting talent.’

Equiom’s client services director, Aidan Davin, said: ‘We are delighted to be able to support local talent and assist in an independently funded junior island squad.

‘The young squad has already received acclaim competing for team GB in past seasons and we hope that the support we are able to offer will help current and future youngsters achieve similar success.

‘Equiom place particular emphasis on supporting local children’s supporting initiatives and we have been extremely impressed by the passion and drive the MYSS and its young members have demonstrated.’
