A TT fan who suffered a serious stroke in 2010 completed a lap of the Mountain Course on Tuesday to raise money for The Stroke Association.
Ian Ormrod, who lives in Hambleton, in Lancashire, rode the TT course on his adapted three-wheel scooter. He had exceeded his £500 target before he even left the Grandstand, in Douglas, and donations currently total more than £600.
A message on his online donation page says: ‘I did it! Unfortunately on the way back I had a little accident and came off. Ok, just a bit of damage to me and the bike.
‘Thanks to all who have helped me and to all who donated.’
His friend Stewart Walsh said the lap went well, but they were expecting more donations when supporters realise he had an accident on his way back to where they were staying in Peel.
Stewart said Ian was fine but hurt his knee when he crashed at Devil’s Elbow on the Peel to Kirk Michael coast road and was airlifted to Noble’s Hospital.
Paul Allinson, a communication support co-ordinator at The Stroke Association, was at the Grandstand for the start of Ian’s lap.
He said: ‘We are very proud to support an individual who is so determined after having a stroke three years ago. I think it’s a tremendous feat. He’s a very positive individual and shows what can be achieved despite some of the disabilities that he has.’
The Stroke Association campaigns to improve stroke care and supports people to make the best possible recovery. And it funds research into new treatments and ways to prevent stroke.
