New TT measures to help workers

Extra measures to ease traffic are to be put in place during this year’s TT to save drivers from being stranded if racing is delayed.

This year, if the racing programme spills over into the evening, the roads are to be reopened between 5pm and 6pm, with the exception of the mountain section, to allow commuters to travel home.

This is a departure from previous practice of opening selected crossing points but leaving the rest of the course closed.

Clerk of the course Gary Thompson, who took over the post last year, said he had concerns in case an open roads accident should then cause remaining races to be lost, but accepted the reasons for doing it.

He said he was keen to improve communication with not just riders and marshals but with the public as well. Apart from the usual radio broadcasts he will also use social networking websites Facebook and Twitter to help keep people informed.
