TIME is running out to sign up for a charity abseil off the Point of Ayre lighthouse.
A group of 50 brave people have already signed up for The Children’s Centre challenge, taking place on Saturday. Up to 100 people can take part – and raise money for the charity’s work in the process.
Fundraising co-ordinator Mark Eastham took part in a trial run last week.
‘This is the first time an abseil from the top of the lighthouse has been attempted,’ he said, adding that everyone involved would have a ‘breath-taking experience’.
Participants will descend from the top of the lighthouse after receiving instruction and training from The Children’s Centre’s MOBEX outdoor pursuits team.
Organisers thanked the Northern Lighthouse Board and owner of the cottages Peter Astell-Burt for allowing the event.
Previous abseils organised by the charity include from the top of the RBS International building in Douglas in 2010.
Anyone under 16 needs parental consent to take part. Participants pay a £30 deposit and pledge to raise £70 in sponsorship.

For anyone wishing to go along to watch, the first abseiler should descend at around 10am with the event expected to go on well into the afternoon.
