Junior Journalist of the Year, sponsored by Celton Manx, is a competition which invites school children to apply their literacy skills to a series of briefs linked to the National Literacy Strategy and the Manx History Curriculum.
The skills are recognised through the publicity generated by the Isle of Man Courier, Manx Independent, Isle of Man Examiner and here on iomtoday.
The Junior Journalist of the Year briefs cover requirements under the National Curriculum and all school children at primary school on the Isle of Man are invited to take part.
There are six different briefs; one for each school year to ensure the concept of the brief suits the age group. We have ensured that participation is simple for both teachers and pupils, to encourage good entries. There will be a prize presentation in June 2013. Photographs of the presentations and winning articles will be reproduced in a specially produced Junior Journalist of the Year supplement which will be distributed with the Manx Independent.
PRIZES
Each year group will have an overall winner who will receive a trophy and book tokens! The overall winner of Junior Journalist of the Year will receive £150 for their school, a shield for their school to retain for the year, a trophy and book tokens!
RULES
1. All pupils in full time education at primary school in the Isle of Man are eligible to enter.
2. Only entries featuring the briefs can be considered.
3. Please ensure name, class, Age and school details are correct on the entry.
4. The winning entry in each year group will be awarded a trophy.
5. Isle of Man Newspapers reserve the right to hold all entries for as long as required for the purposes of the competition, and entry into the competition is deemed acceptance of Isle of Man Newspapers’ right to publish and/or exhibit such entries at their sole discretion, and as they deem
acceptable. Whilst entries can be reclaimed by entrants after a date to be determined by Isle of Man Newspapers, the Company accepts no responsibility for damage, loss or defacement of any entry.
6. Entries must be sent or delivered to the offices of Isle of Man Newspapers, to arrive no later than 3rd May 2013. Entries received after this date cannot be accepted.
7. The judging of entries will take place week commencing 6th May, 2013. Winners and runners-up will be notified at their school address.
8. The decision of the panel of judges appointed by Isle of Man Newspapers will be final and binding, and no correspondence will be entered in to.
9. Prizes will be awarded in June 2013. The acceptance of a prize constitutes agreement by the winner for either him/herself and/or their entry to be photographed and published either in the news columns of Isle of Man Newspapers and/or in a specific supplement to be published by Isle of Man Newspapers or elsewhere at the Company’s sole discretion.
10. Submission of entries shall be deemed to be acceptance in full of the preceding conditions.
