Chris is ‘million dollar’ man

BASED in the Douglas office of Collins Stewart Wealth Management Chris Wilson has achieved recognition around the world as he finished in the top 10 of CNBC’s Million Dollar Portfolio Challenge.

The challenge lasted for five weeks and saw more than 250,000 contestants investing a virtual million US dollars in stocks and exchange traded funds on the New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq Marketplace, American Stock Exchange, London Stock Exchange, and Australian Securities Exchange as well as buying and selling currency, all in real time.

Mr Wilson took part in the challenge and grew his million dollars to $1,473,802.51, building his portfolio by almost 50 per cent. This impressive gain placed him 10th in the United Kingdom standings – a statistic which was beamed around the globe on CNBC.

Mr Wilson, head of Isle of Man stockbroking at Collins Stewart Wealth Management, was pleased to have done so well.

He said: ‘It was really good fun to get involved in this challenge against peers from around the world.

‘Obviously this is similar to what I do for a living, but it is less stressful when the money isn’t real.

‘It was exciting to see my name keep popping up on CNBC, hopefully I have drawn attention to the level of investment knowledge available in the island,’ he said.
