Yesterday’s Victoria ward election has been won by former borough engineer Ian Clague.
Mr Clague, who has an MBE and lives at Laureston Close, will serve as a councillor until May 1 2020.
Mr Clague won the vote by a margin of just over 100, taking 175 of the 358 votes cast. His nearest rival was Natalie Byron, who took 74 votes. Robert James Crellin polled 41; Derek Lavery took 38, and Michelle O’Connor took 25.
Turn-out in the ward was 12.3 per cent and there were five spoilt papers.
