The Mount Murray Hotel and Country Club has been sold, it was confirmed today.

Isle of Man-based Comis Holdings has announced plans for a ‘world class’ hotel and leisure development after a deal to purchase the complex was finalised.

The purchase was completed late on Thursday afternoon following the licensing court decision to grant the appropriate licence.

First phases of work to refurbish the hotel, which closed following a fire in 2013, should begin within weeks.

The development will be known as COMIS at Mount Murray.

A Comis Holdings director said: ‘The Isle of Man needs more high quality hotel accommodation, both to grow the visitor economy and provide businesses with a venue where they can be proud to host guests.

‘There is also a demand among island residents for the amenities of a world-class development that COMIS at Mount Murray intend to provide.

‘Our vision is to provide superior hotel accommodation and facilities in a picturesque setting which can be enjoyed by visitors and locals, as well as a “destination” venue for occasions ranging from business conferences to large-scale tourism events. There is huge potential.’

The golf club itself remains open and Comis Holdings plan to reopen the restaurant in the coming weeks – a further announcement will be made in due course.

Comis Holdings was formed last year specifically to negotiate the purchase and redevelopment of the former Mount Murray Hotel and Country Club.
