Luminous paint for dog dirt

BRADDAN Commissioners are today (Monday) launching a campaign to cut down on dog fouling in the parish.

Posters will tell people that, under the Dog Byelaws 2009 and the Dogs Act 1990, people who don’t clear up after their dogs risk a £50 spot fine or, if it goes to court, a fine of £1,000.

The commissioners say one of the worst areas in the parish is the Marine Drive and yet there are 14 litter or dog bins within that three-mile stretch of road.

The authority will step up warden patrols in the worst affected areas.

To highlight the problem and to raise awareness, any dog mess which has been left on the pavements, roads and verges will be sprayed in luminous colours and left for a week before being cleared up.

This exercise will have a dual purpose as it will aid pedestrians’ awareness of where the mess is located and hopefully prevent them from stepping in it.
