Jack is so transparent

HERE’S a man who has got himself into a bit of a sticky situation!

Jack Griffin – who is made entirely from sticky tape – was originally created by Isle of Man Arts Society member Jill Gillings for inclusion in its autumn exhibition at Victoria Road Shoprite.

Jill, of Ronague, said: ‘He has developed a life of its own.

‘Because most people smile when they see him I decided to take him to coffee shops around the island.’

He is named after the title character from The Invisible Man by H.G Wells.

Jack, who took three evenings and a couple of big rolls of sticky tape to make, has spent the last two weeks collecting smiles.

His trips include to Jabberwocky and The Velvet Lobster in Douglas, Neb Cafe at Tynwald Mills, St John’s, and The Corn Mill, in Laxey.

He was also taken on a road trip around the island at the weekend – but Jill had to keep him in the car when they reached The Sound because she was worried he might blow away.

And despite being somewhat empty-headed, Jack has been invited to attend the Christmas market taking place this weekend at Laxey Working Men’s Institute.

Visitors have left messages for him in a special book and he even has his own Facebook and Twitter pages.

Jill said: ‘It’s been raining so much it’s nice to do something a bit silly to make people smile.’

Perhaps unsurprisingly, when asked what it was like to work with sticky tape, Jill said: ‘Sticky!’
