THE government is advertising for applications for the temporary position of acting Attorney General.
The £159,797-a-year post is available because the current Attorney General, Stephen Harding, has been suspended.
He currently faces six charges - an offence of conspiring to commit an act against public justice, a count of perjury, three charges of forgery and one count of committing and act against public justice.
The acting Attorney General would have no predetermined hours of work but is expected to be available throughout the year. He or she will enjoy a non-contributory pension and 30 days a year leave.
Candidates must be a qualified advocate with at least 10 years experience at the Manx Bar.
He or she would be appointed for 12 months and serve as legal adviser to the Lieutenant Governor, Council of Ministers, government departments and statutory boards.
The successful applicant would be required to offer guidance on matters of law and issues relating to the Isle of Man’s domestic and external interests.
Duties also include representing the Crown in the prosecution of offences and assuming responsibility, with the support of the Attorney General’s Chambers, for the drafting of Bills for introduction into the legislature.
In addition, he or she would attend sittings of Tynwald and the Legislative Council.
