Works to the old House of Keys in Castletown should be postponed, according to the local authority.
Architect Hugh Logan emailed that the company had been commissioned by Manx National Heritage to oversee external redecoration works to the building: ‘This may result in temporary obstruction to the car park entrance down the side, in which case a traffic light system might be introduced on the other access. It is currently envisaged that these works will be undertaken during January/February.’
He asked for the commissioners’ views, ‘bearing in mind that the work itself will reinforce regeneration work in the town’.
The authority questioned on Monday if traffic lights were necessary as the current system of relying on motorists’ judgement suffices.
They would prefer the work be deferred to leave more time after the completion of the regeneration of the square.
