The Manx Blind Welfare Society is encouraging Isle of Man residents to wear their brightest clothes, decorate the workplace in bright colours or have a colourful bake sale, on September 18, to help support the blind and visually impaired.

The ‘Bright for Sight’ day is being organised by the Manx Blind Welfare Society as part of Vision Awareness Week, which runs from September 14 to 20.

Debbie Thomson, volunteers coordinator and events organiser, said: ‘The aim of Vision Awareness Week is to highlight how we can, as a community, better understand what it means to be blind or visually impaired and ensure everyone has the opportunity and independence to live their life as they choose.

‘Bright for Sight day is a fun way of raising awareness of that message and the services and support offered by the Manx Blind Welfare Society and other organisations in the island. It is also an opportunity to raise funds to help us continue our vital work with more than 600 seriously visually impaired people in the island.

‘There are many ways you could help raise funds, perhaps holding a dress down day or a cake sale and asking for donations. It’s up to you how you get involved, just make sure it’s bright,’ Debbie said.
