A ‘mud kitchen’ has been built at Arbory Primary School for the school’s outdoor play area.
Building firm Hartford Homes, which is currently working on the nearby development at Cronk Cullyn in Colby, has donated and installed wooden play equipment complete with work surfaces and even the kitchen sink.
Teacher Nicola Longshaw said: ‘This is a great asset to our outdoor space as it allows the children to use their imagination, experiment and create to their hearts’ content, whilst engaging in cooperative play and interaction.
‘The children are very eager to play in their new mud kitchen and are already discussing what they are going to make, from mud pies to chocolate mud cupcakes! It is definitely something that will evolve over time and enrich the children’s learning.’
Hartford Homes director James Greenhalgh said: ‘We’re thrilled to have been able to offer this boost to the school and we hope to develop our relationship further over the coming months as work continues at Cronk Cullyn.’
He added: ‘The kitchen is quite different to those we’re used to fitting, but we hope the children will be delighted with their new muddy cooking space.’
Cronk Cullyn is behind the Colby Glen Pub and the shop. It will feature a wide range of new homes from two-bed bungalows to four- and five-bed family houses, along with a fully equipped play area.
