A charity walk with a difference is set to take place at the end of the month.
Less able bodied walkers will be assembling on the starting blocks on May 29 at 2pm to complete a charity walk of 0.62 miles along the Douglas promenades starting out from the war memorial.
Alan Buck, vice chairman of the Isle of Man Health and Care Association, said the idea was to allow less able bodied people to be part of the fund raising venture: ‘The walk is somewhat out of the ordinary in that it is for those of us who may not be able to take part in the Parish Walk, or run a marathon. It is for us to show that we also can take part in a ‘sporting’ event that will contribute to the island’s charities. The distance is academic as it is the taking part and not the distance that is important.’ Helpers are welcome, as are zimmer frames, crutches or mobility scooters.
Originally planned for the autumn, the walk will now take place at a time when the weather may be more clement, organisers hope. Anyone wanting more information should contact Mr Buck on 495960. Organisers hope as many as 30 or more charity members may take part and walkers are being asked to register as soon as they can.
