A Port St Mary woman said she was ‘thrilled’ to win a new car worth £17,000 in a fundraising raffle.

Claire Jennings scooped the top prize in the ‘Juke of Hospice’ prize draw, which was limited to 1,000 tickets priced at £20 each and sold out just before Christmas.

The star prize, a 2015 Nissan Juke, was donated by Athol Garage in Ballasalla to Hospice Isle of Man. This is the second year that the company has donated a car as a prize.

David Quayle, sales director and co-owner of Athol Garage, said: ‘We have always supported local charities on the island, particularly Hospice, and were delighted that this initiative is raising funds for such a worthy cause and is proving so successful.’

Mary Doyle, head of income generation for Hospice added: ‘We are very grateful to everyone that bought a ticket for this draw and supported Hospice by doing so.

‘When I rang Claire she was thrilled with winning and was looking forward to seeing her new car.

She added: ‘Hospice Isle of Man looks after the highest number of cancer patients and survivors on the island so we are grateful to the Manx public for their ongoing support of our charity by supporting this initiative.

‘It was also a pleasure to work with David and the team at Athol Garage again and thank them for their support.’

Mrs Doyle said that Hospice Isle of Man must raise £3.5 million a year and is always looking for new and innovative fundraising ideas.

There were 19 other prizes in the draw. Full details of all the other winners is available on Hospice’s website and social media feeds.
