Some 46,000 mini-Three Legs of Man will adorn Snaefell summit later this year.
Concrete slabs, specially manufactured by Jurby-based BPD Ltd and each featuring 266 little triskelia, are being laid at the terminus of the Mountain Railway.
It’s part of a £720,000 track renewal project that was given Tynwald approval last year.
Director of public transport Ian Longworth said the latest works are focused on replacing worn points and crossings, dating back to 1895. He said: ‘We have had a number of minor derailments on these points. One set of points on this list are those at the summit and the track within the station is also life expired.
‘We are currently in the planning phase and have decided to use some precast concrete units as opposed to other methods of surfacing the area of track renewal which is paved. The preparatory work at the summit is being done now and some site work will be done before TT but the major work at the summit will start in September. The point work at the Bungalow has recently been completed and the total scheme will be finished by the spring of 2016.’
