A meeting of the Town Team, a group tasked with rejuvenating retail in Castletown, was good commissioner Kevin Weir says.
‘There were some good ideas,’ he told Castletown Commissioners’ meeting. ‘Hopefully everything is going in the right direction.’
Colin Leather commented on the recent news that Tesco would not be opening an Express store in Callow’s Yard and said: ‘Now we know Tesco is not coming, the Town Team will be able to head in a different direction and follow some of the ideas and concentrate completely on this without a question mark hanging over them.’
He added some retailers with ‘brand names’ were interested in the town.
‘It’s not all doom and gloom,’ he said.
The team was set up by the Department of Economic Development and Castletown Commissioners to investigate and promote retail and leisure in the town.
It follows a report commissioned by the department last summer by independent retail consultant Martin Sewell.
