Car rally fans can get closer to the action and provide a great service to the sport as well by helping out as a marshal.
That’s the rallying cry from Shely Bryan of the Manx Motor Racing Club.
And to encourage people to get involved, they are running a marshals’ training session on Saturday March 14 for people to find out more about what is involved as well as building their confidence so they know what to expect if they decide to volunteer.
Mrs Bryan said: ‘None of the motorsport can happen without a dedicated bunch of marshals and officials from organising the paperwork to organisingthe paddock, from course set up to hill marshals, dozens of people help make the event run like a well-oiled machine and that’s where our volunteers come in.
‘If you have a love of classic cars or motorsport in general, join us and help out. Motorsport events can’t happen without volunteers like you.’
This year’s Manx Classic annual sprint and hill climb event for vintage, classic and modern sports cars will be held on 23 to 25 April and will include cars from every era from 1911 Edwardian racers to Morgan three wheelers, Minis and Mitsubishis.
The session will be an informal get together for people to find out more information about volunteering and learn some of the basics. It is from 11am to 2.30pm at the TT grandstand in Douglas and lunch is included.
To reserve a place, contact mmrc@manx.net or for more information call chief marshal Paul Dewar on 420955.
‘Anyone interested should just drop us a quick message by email or call the telephone number and talk to us. Anyone who can’t make the training session but is still interested in helping out should still contact us if they would like to help out in April. As with the TT, once new marshals have signed up they will be teamed up with experiencedmarshals and shown the ropes, so do come along and give it a go and have a lot of fun at the same time.’
