A well-known island businesswoman has been appointed as the first ever patron of a charity for the elderly.
Tracey Leahy, who is managing director of MannVend, has taken up the role on behalf of the Isle of Man’s Live At Home schemes.
The charity helps older people to continue to live independently and provides a range of services including organising social groups, drop-in sessions, befriending, help with transport and advice on accessing other support services.
Mrs Leahy said: ‘I am delighted to become the first patron of the Isle of Man Live at Home Schemes.
‘The schemes offer friendship and relieve loneliness whilst also forging strong bonds between members and volunteers. It is a real honour for me to be part of this team.’
There are five active schemes in the island, operating in the West, North, Onchan, Douglas and Laxey. Collectively they provide support for around 500 older adults. The schemes are all affiliated with the UK-based MHA charity.
