There is a large number of acoustic artists in the island all taking in a wide range of influences and playing a wide range of styles.
The Birds and The Beards are no exception. This acoustic outfit has recently been making a name for themselves across the island due to a relentless schedule of gigs.
The band’s line-up is made up of vocalist Stephanie Tomlinson with Nell Kneale, Adam Swales and Mike Giles on guitars. The band formed three years ago when Stephanie and Nell bumped into each at an open mic night and the line-up with Adam and Mike was completed soon after.
Their mission statement is simple in that nothing is off the table and nothing is out of bounds as far as songs that could end up in their set-list goes. There’s even a Pantera cover going in imminently.
The current set-list ranges anywhere from Marvin Gaye to System Of A Down via Enrique Iglesias and just about anything else in between. Really, nothing is off limits!
Following on from their excellent set at Amber in Douglas last Saturday night as part of the Songs From The Sofa show, their list of live dates rolls on this weekend with the band appearing at The Bridge in Douglas on Friday night and then on to The Creek in Peel the night after.
Whilst we’re on the subject of all things acoustic, I have imminent news in the next couple of weeks regarding local singer/songwriter Chris Gray and an album launch gig for his debut album ‘Diamonds In Your Tree’.
The album is scheduled for release on April 6 via Sunn Creative.
Indeed, the album is already picking up some favourable press with a certain Dermot O’Leary giving cut ‘Suzy Won’t See Me’ a play on his Saturday afternoon show on Radio 2 a weekend or two ago.
Following on from their show at Bar Logo last Friday night, I can also confirm that Iron Maiden covers band Ed Force One have announced they are confirmed to headline the Royal Hall at the Villa Marina during TT Race Week on Thursday, June 11, which also happens to be the night before Senior Race Day! More news on that as I have it.
If a bit of Punk is your thing then I recommend going to see UK based band Grade 2 who are over for the weekend for two shows.
The band’s first visit to the island sees them appearing at The Mines Tavern in Laxey on Friday night followed by The Carnival Live Lounge in Douglas on Saturday.
Support for these shows comes from local Punk boys Deady Long Legs. These boys bring a mix of covers from the likes of Green day, Therapy, Social Distortion and Bad Religion along with some originals of their own.
Thanks for reading and I’ll see you all next week.
