STEVE Heeney has realised his dream of publishing a novel.

No Mann’s Land is a crime thriller inspired by the island. Steve, 48, is married and lives in Port Erin.

What is your idea of a perfect meal?

Home-made toad in the hole and apple crumble. I’ve just discovered baking.

What is your favourite way to relax?

Reading a good book – anything from crime thrillers to Dickens to comics.

What is your greatest extravagance?

Gadgets – anything from computers to bread makers.

Do you have any pets?

We had a hamster but it died just before Christmas.

What is your greatest achievement?

In life, having a wonderful son. Career-wise, publishing my crime thriller novel.

What is your favourite time of the year?

Summer time – long warm sunny days (we have them sometimes) and riding my bike.

What is the first job you ever had?

My dad made us go potato picking on Sunday mornings for pocket money! Do you have any irrational fears? Cockroaches. I once stayed in a farmhouse in Italy and one evening I saw the floor black with them.

What is your worst habit?

I’m very restless. I always want/need to be doing things.

What is your favourite book?

Changes monthly! At the moment it’s The Second World War by Antony Beevor.

What is your favourite television programme?

Sherlock. Brilliantly re-imagined crime-drama.

What is your favourite band/artist at the moment?

Some great music currently. I do like Ed Sheeran and The Script.

What is your favourite part of the Isle of Man?

The Sound on a stormy day with the waves crashing on Kitterland.

What is the last show/band that you saw live?

The Moscow Circus at the Gaiety.

If time/money were no object, what would be your perfect day?

An early morning bike-ride on the island, spend the morning writing a perfect story at The Sound, lunch at Noa Bakehouse and the afternoon scuba diving somewhere warm and tropical. Home-cooked evening meal.

Choose three people, dead or alive, to invite to dinner?

Albert Einstein, William Shakespeare, Stan Laurel.

Which do you prefer:

Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings?

Lord of the Rings.

Cats or dogs?

Cats.

Birthday or Christmas?

Christmas for everyone.

Pudding.

Quiet night in.
