The island is facing gale force winds over the next few days.

The Met Office’s forecast issued this morning:
Today:
Occasional rain or drizzle will become more persistent and heavier during the course of the afternoon. The southwest winds will remain strong to gale force with temperatures reaching 11 Celsius.
The rain will clear towards or during the early evening with the winds turning westerly and easing temporarily. A dry night will follow but with the westerly winds becoming strong to gale force again and a risk of severe gales in exposed spots later; lowest overnight temperature near to 3 Celsius.
Outlook
Very windy on Wednesday, with strong to gale force westerly winds, gusts 50 to 60 mph and severe gales at times in exposed locations with gusts up to 70 miles per hour, leading to the risk of some minor damage and also disruption to travel.
A good part of the day will be dry, although scattered wintry showers are possible and it will be cold, temperatures 7 or 8 Celsius at best 3 or 4 in upland areas.

Some bright intervals are likely but with an occasional shower and more widespread rain threatens later in the day, highest daytime temperature 7 or 8 Celsius.
