MORE than 100 youngsters who have gained their bronze and silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award have been invited to the annual presentation evening at the Gaiety Theatre in Douglas this month.
It follows a record number of people registering for and gaining one of the three levels under the award scheme.
Department of Education and Children awards’ co-ordinator Alison Gawne said: ‘This is one of my favourite events of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award year as it represents the end of the journey through a particular award and a celebration of the personal achievements of each individual who comes forward to receive their award.’
The event, which will be attended by Education and Children Minister Tim Crookall MHK, is sponsored by Isle of Man Bank. The bank’s head of intermediaries and real estate finance, Sam Skelton, will present the certificates.
The DEC’s Youth Service is registered as an operating authority and has 15 award units – including schools and youth groups – signed up to offer the award. A number of independent authorities such as King William’s College and the Air Cadets operate the scheme, and they are invited to bring their young people to be presented with their certificates.
Other organisations registered to offer the award interested in being included should contact Alison, 686051.
Admission is free and young people can invite as many guests as they like.
To gain the award, sections must be completed in volunteering, physical and skills sections, as well as plan and complete an expedition. For more information visit {htp://www.gov.im/education/info/doea.xml|www.gov.im/education/info/doea.xml}
