Beach Buddies is adding a Saturday session to its beach cleaning activities for the first time this weekend, with volunteers meeting at Port Grenaugh at 10.30am.

There will also be a normal Sunday session, this time at Ballaghennie Ayres Nature Reserve, again with a 10.30am start.

‘We have recently been asked a number of times to hold a Saturday session,’ said Beach Buddies’ founder Bill Dale. ‘Many people are not able to attend on Sundays, for various reasons, so there is potentially another big group of volunteers who could get involved on Saturdays.’

This weekend’s session will act as a trial, to assess response, and another Saturday session will be held in the north of the island next weekend, again to consider whether there should be regular Saturday events.

As always, at both events Beach Buddies will provide all the necessary equipment and dispose of the materials collected afterwards, recycling where possible, using the Sandy B trailer.

Sponsors include AFD Software, SITA, WDS Limited, DoI, The Scott Trust, the Elizabeth Clucas Trust, the Society for the Preservation of the Manx Countryside, Blythe Financial, Aston International, Charlie’s Mum and Dad, Zero Waste Mann, Andy Kerruish, Lloyds Bank, Bobby Sadler Agricultural and Juan Knight OffRoad.

Anyone who would like to receive regular news updates on the activities of Beach Buddies can register by sending an email to beachbuddies@manx.net
