Managing director David McGarry said: ‘Nurturing talent is at the top of our agenda at KPMG. We try, at every opportunity, to offer opportunities to progress, to take ownership of development, and to do so within a supportive professional environment. Our most recent raft of appointments and promotions is clear testament to this policy. I would like to congratulate Kristan, Jonathan, Piotr and Laura for their hard work and commitment to their careers with us, and welcome each of them to their respective new roles.’

An accounting and economics graduate of Sheffield University Kristan King began his career training with KPMG Isle of Man.

Having qualified as a chartered accountant in 2002, Kristan chose a secondment to KPMG Auckland, New Zealand to develop his expertise in financial services audit.

Post-secondment, Kristan transferred to transaction services at KPMG Manchester, where he has gained considerable experience working in the capital and private equity markets over the past 10 years. As senior manager, Kristan’s core responsibilities will include assisting clients with the acquisition and disposal of businesses and the raising of finance to support business growth, both of which complement his experience of capital markets transactions.

Audit manager Jonathan Cretney began his career with PwC in 1999 and qualified as a chartered accountant in 2002.

During 10 years with PwC Jonathan also spent three years working in the United States, gaining experience in US GAAP and GAAS. Working in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Texas, Jonathan focused on alternative investment audits, which included leading the audit of one of the world’s largest asset managers.

Jonathan joined KPMG in January this year where, as well as managing external audit clients, he is also responsible for leading the internal audit department. As compliance manager, Jonathan is now further responsible for assisting clients with their regulatory reporting responsibilities.

Piotr Schabik was promoted to manager within the audit department this month and will be involved in developing and maintaining strong client relationships as well as overseeing the growth and success of the KPMG Isle of Man office.

Piotr trained in practice at the KPMG Port Elizabeth office in South Africa, where he was exposed to and developed skills across the audit function.

Piotr passed all the required chartered accountancy (SA) qualification exams upon first attempt, with the final examination passed in 2012. He then qualified as a chartered accountant in 2013.

While training in the KPMG Port Elizabeth office, Piotr was predominantly exposed to the manufacturing and automotive industry where he enhanced his knowledge and skills. Piotr joined the Isle of Man audit practice as an audit senior in December 2012. Since then, he has continued to develop his knowledge in the financial services sector, including investment funds, company service providers and captive insurers.

Originally from Toronto, Canada, Laura O’Sullivan trained in practice at KPMG Isle of Man and qualified as a chartered accountant within the audit department in 2013. Laura’s audit experience is concentrated in the financial services sector and her clients consist primarily of large multi-jurisdictional trust and corporate services providers, as well as insurance and pension providers that require regulatory reporting both on the Isle of Man and in international locations.

Laura holds a diverse audit portfolio of fund administrators, investment managers, funds, and both private and retail banks.

Laura’s promotion to audit manager will see her continue to develop strong client relationships and give her the opportunity to demonstrate her leadership skills.
