Barclays has launched its Digital Eagles service in the island with the first Tea and Teach event held at the Royal British Legion Port Erin Branch.
The Digital Eagles are a fully-trained group of Barclays employees on a mission to boost Britain’s digital confidence and they are now on hand in the Isle of Man to provide free technology advice to both customers and non-customers.
The Tea and Teach sessions are designed to help novices better understand how to take advantage of the internet and online banking services in a relaxed environment.
Sessions are delivered by Barclays Digital Eagles, in-branch specialists who have a passion for the internet and enthusiasm to share their expertise over a cup of tea or coffee.
The sessions are tailored to the needs of the individuals covering how using the internet and mobile apps can enhance their daily lives including online banking activities and other activity such as using Skype, shopping online, iPad tutorials, smart phones and other tablet devices.
Ray Thornton, a Barclays Digital Eagle said: ‘At the recent Tea and Teach session we helped attendees from Southern Befrienders and the Royal British Legion with a variety of digital queries, from how to get on to the internet to setting up accounts for Skype, as well as discussing antivirus protection.’
He added: ‘I explained the benefits of online video player services such as YouTube to an older gentleman as he did not have a television licence.
‘I also showed him how to set up a dual time world clock so he knows what time it is where his sister lives.’
Simon Scott, managing director of Barclays Private Clients International in the island said: ‘Great customer service is at the heart of everything we do at Barclays. The Digital Eagles programme is all about going above and beyond to help our customers get the most out of being online. We want everyone, regardless of age, to reap some of the benefits of being online, whether that’s saving money, keeping on top of finances or staying in touch with family and friends.’
