DRIVERS are being urged to avoid Douglas promenades this afternoon and evening as delays to the TT programme mean congestion is ‘inevitable’.
A press release from the Department of Infrastructure advises motorists to expect severe disruption to travel, particularly on Douglas promenades and asks them to avoid the area between 5pm and 7pm if at all possible.
It continues: ‘In order to assist commuters in their journeys home the crossing points and access corridors are planned to be opened at 5pm and traffic signals will be manually operated.
‘The horse trams will be suspended during the busy evening peak time. However, congestion is inevitable and the public are advised to plan their journeys home to avoid the busiest times if at all possible or to make alternative arrangements for travel.’
Crossing points and access corridors will open at 5pm, but close again at 6pm to allow for racing and practicing to continue into the evening.
Following the 6pm closure, it is unlikely the course will open again until 9.30pm.
