A charity event is being held tomorrow (Saturday) in memory of the victims of the Summerland fire that happened on August 2, 1973.
Taking place at Amber in Douglas, the line up is made up of some of the island’s finest singer/songwriters including Chris Gray, Matt Creer, Nick Barlow and Tony and Dickie.
Tickets priced at £10 are available from Shakti Man in Ramsey, Celtic Gold in Peel, Thompson Travel in Port Erin and Peter Norris Music in Douglas. Tickets can also be bought online from.etickets.im/etickets.asp.
I believe that there will also be a small number of tickets available on the door on the night of the gig. All proceeds raised will be donated to the Alder Hey Children’s Burns Unit and the Children’s Burns Trust.
At 7.30pm and ahead of the start of the gig, a minute’s silence and release of 50 white balloons will take place on the promenade opposite the Summerland site.
While we’re on the subject of all things Amber-related and a future date for your diaries, it’s recently been announced that John Power of The La’s (remember There She Goes?) and, most notably, mid-90s indie band Cast will appear at the venue.
Having achieved mainstream success with indie anthems including Finetime, Alright and Walkaway among others, John will be performing at the venue on Saturday, November 22, along with fellow band member Jay Lewis. Support on the night comes from Chris Gray. Tickets are already on sale, priced at £15 and are available from Peter Norris Music or by calling the ticket hotline 306257.
The second of the series of new nights taking place in the Promenade Suite at the Villa Marina in Douglas takes place tomorrow (Saturday). Following on from the success of the first event that took place a couple of weeks ago, this second night features Dick Best and Steph and Eamon on the acoustic stage.
The electric stage features Joey Wylde and the Divided Opinions and Borderline. Playing between the bands will be DJ Peter Dunne. This event is free entry until 9pm and then £5 afterwards.
On another note, having reported on the progress of the initial promotional and fund raising campaign for The Big Beat For Hospice, I’m very happy to announce that the Nick Barlow and The Bad Noise show that took place last Saturday at Port St Mary town hall, and which included Davy Knowles, Tender Rage and Katie Lawrence, raised £2,000 towards the overall total raised so far ahead of the main event at the end of October at the Villa Marina.
