Royal Navy warship HMS Brocklesby will arrive in the Isle of Man on Tuesday (July 1) for five days.

HMS Brocklesby is a Hunt-class mine countermeasures vessel (MCMV) and will be alongside at Victoria Pier in Douglas from Tuesday until Saturday. She will be open to visit from 10am until 1pm on July 2, 3 and 4.

This offers the Isle of Man public a unique opportunity to go aboard, learn more about the career opportunities in the Royal Navy, and get a glimpse of life on a warship.

Forty-four world class musicians from the Hampshire based HMS Collingwood Royal Marines Band will also pay a visit to the island to perform a concert at Castle Rushen High School and host music workshops for local school children.

The Commanding Officer, Lt Cdr John Comrie, said: ‘It’s always a privilege to be able to showcase the Royal Navy around the UK. Over the course of the week we will open our ship to the public on three separate days to give the people of the Isle of Man an opportunity to see what we can do.’

As well as opening to the public the ship will host a lunch and reception for invited guests and dignitaries who will hear all about the ship and its capabilities.

HMS Brocklesby recently returned from an operational deployment in the Mediterranean where she worked as part of a multinational mine counter-measures task force. Ships from allied nations work together throughout the year defending sea routes from the threat of underwater mines and carry our joint training exercises.HMS Brocklesby is one of eight Hunt-class MCMVs based in Portsmouth. Built by Vosper Thornycroft from glass re-inforced plastic, she was launched in 1982 and commissioned 13 months later.

The third ship to bear the name, she won her most recent battle honours clearing sea-lanes in to Umm Qasr in Iraq during Operation Telic in 2003.
