A team of adventurers attempting to complete the first ever straight-line journey the length of Britain are expected to reach the Isle of Man tomorrow (Saturday).

The Beeline Britain team, which includes Paralympian and double-amputee army veteran Nick Beighton, are walking, cycling and kayaking the 1,110km route from Land’s End in England to John O’Groats in Scotland.

They are currently resting and preparing for the 15-hour sea kayak journey to the Isle of Man.

And, subject to the weather conditions, they are due to arrive in Port St Mary at about 8pm on Saturday.

The team will then cycle up the west coast of the island, before leaving for Burrow Head, in south-west Scotland, by kayak.

Along with Nick, the team is made up of kayak coach Adam Harmer, Tori James who is the youngest British woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest, and Sergeant Ian O’Grady, who works with the Merlin helicopters at RAF Benson.

They are currently at Anglesey, having completed the third leg of the journey, a 24-hour non-stop kayak from North Pembrokeshire.

They were greeted by a flotilla of sea kayakers and hundreds of well wishers on the beach.

They have already travelled 400km and kayaked for 57 hours but are yet to hit the half-way marker. After leaving the Isle of Man, the route incorporates everything from the centre of Glasgow to the Cairngorm summit.

The whole trip was calculated to take 18 days – with the right weather conditions.

They aim to raise £20,000 for BLESMA, the limbless veterans’ charity.
