April was third hottest on record in Isle of Man

Last month was one of the hottest Aprils on record, the latest figures from the Met Office show.

The temperature was about 1.5C higher than the long term average for the time of year.

With an average temperature of 9.6C, it was the equal third warmest on record along with 2003, and behind 2007 and 2011. The mean daily maximum was 12.3C.

April 21 was the best day, with the thermometer peaking at 18.3C at Ronaldsway.

The temperature dipped to 3.5C on April 18, and there were six nights with a ground frost.

It was a dry month with just 39.6mm of rainfall collected at Ronaldsway, compared to the long term average of 55mm. The wettest day was April 3 with 11.3mm.

There were 155.8 hours of bright sunshine burned onto the cards, a little below normal. The best day was April 18 with 13.2 hours.

Wind speeds were a little below average, with a mean of 10.8 knots over the month. The highest gust was 37 knots on April 6.

There were seven days with fog, double the April average.
