The island’s GPs will be on a course together for an afternoon next month.

It is designed to keep them up to date with latest developments in medicine as well as giving them the opportunity to meet together, to share good practice, and to learn new skills.

The next GP education session will be held on the afternoon of Thursday, April 3.

Each of the island’s GP practices will remain open during the afternoon for patients who wish, for example, to make appointments, collect test results or order repeat prescriptions.

Practice nurses will be working as usual.

Provision has been made for any patient who is in need of urgent GP attention to be seen by an on-call GP in a similar way to out-of-hours cover.

Any patient needing urgent attention should telephone their usual GP practice in the first instance.

Health chiefs are asking patients to only contact their surgery to consult with a doctor during the afternoon of April 3 if they have an urgent need that cannot wait until the following morning.
