BIKESPORT fans will this year for the first time be able to enjoy film coverage of the Southern 100 races in High Definition, or HD as it is more commonly known.

Filming of the July event is in the hands of Tromode-based Greenlight Television for the third year running. In addition to the standard spectators’ view shots, the company will again be using kerbside cameras and on-board cameras all capturing the action in HD.

A spokesman for Greenlight said: ‘It will be brilliant for TV viewers and it will be better still for DVD customers who will get full races on-bike with individual riders providing a quality of entertainment not seen before.’

Southern 100 Club race secretary George Peach said: ‘Greenlight Television has produced an excellent DVD for the past two years covering every race, which has been very well received and with the added HD coverage this year that should be further enhanced.

‘In addition, the world-wide TV coverage of the Southern 100 helps to promote the races and the Isle of Man, being seen in more than 500 million homes.’

The races, which run round the four and a quarter-mile Billown circuit starting and ending in Castletown, will take place from July 9 to 12.
