PEEL lifeboat was called out to rescue two teenagers who were trapped on rocks to the north of the town.

Volunteers were called out yesterday (Thursday) after the two 14-year-old girls got stuck.

The two local girls, who had clambered down the cliffs while on an afternoon walk, found they were unable to climb back to the top.

They raised the alarm themselves through Liverpool coastguard, who called out Peel RNLI lifeboat at 5.44pm.

Within minutes the volunteer crew were on their way to the girls about one mile from the station. On reaching them the crew launched the small dinghy to recover the two from the cliff face and return them safely to Peel.

On return to Peel the girls said they were ‘highly embarrassed by all the fuss and expense they had caused’.

Second coxswain John Hunter said: ‘It shows the danger of climbing down cliffs without any thought of the way back.’
